Ouch

Ouch. My gums are still swelling. Every spout of saliva I spit out is red.. yuugh..
Eating is a torture.. when both sides are painful, swelling, full of blood and loaded with the stitches, I can only swallow the porridge down the middle! No biting, just swallowing down. It's impossible to avoid BOTH sides as well! rrgh.

Had my wisdom teeth extraction @ Alexandra Hospital this morning at around 9.15am.

Actually I wanted to extract them since a long time ago, as they were causing me problems. Some niggling pain whenever my gums are dry, eat dry food or they are damn hard to brush! I removed one during BMT at the BMTC medical centre.. Why was it so easy then but so troublesome now?

I opted to have a local anesthesia, as opposed to a general anesthesia, which will put me in deep sleep. I wanted to experience for myself the whole process. Also. the thought of going into deep coma sounds scary too, it's not like I having some major surgery! And of course the waiting time of 6hours and not knowing what the doctor did to you.

I'm still not sure whether I regretted that decision!!

Lying on the operating chair is quite scary. Maybe that overdose of American sci-fi movies put me thinking that I was some meat on the chair ready to be cut up by eager experimentalists. The very thought of my mortality entered my mind. I'm now at the mercy of some strangers!!!

And the process wasn't easy.

I experienced various needles being poked into my gums, BOTH SIDES.

Then, miss dentist (yes she was a female) proceeded on with my bottom right teeth.

It's quite gross to feel the drills, the pincers and what-equipments-have-you banging and pressing against your teeth. I can still feel the tools on my teeth, just without the pain. However, on the other hand, the sadist in me feel quite fun then a part of my body is being drilled.. No pain somemore!!

Drill, pluck and bang? No pain!!!

Neh-neh-ni-poo-poo. Yah not funnie HAHAHA!!

After repeated drilling --> plucking --> breaking the tooth --> drilling --> plucking --> .... , the process was repeated a no. of times, and apparently on that SAME TOOTH.

My doubts are confirmed by her.

"Aiyo this is the hardest tooth I've done! It's hiding behind the other one"

Oh my God.

I tried to laugh to soothe her I sense that impatience mounting.

"Please, just be patient and slowly do it.. Don't be rash!!" I thought to myself.

"What calcium did you take ah?" She jokes.

"Haha.." I controlled my laughter, with all that saliva and blood clogging my throat. Should I be happy or what? Haha I'm happy for the strong teeth I have. The process is not painful,

but my cheeks are bloody painful now from the constant widening of my mouth..

OEI KIN LEH!

Luckily after a few more rounds of the above-mentioned drill, I heard that 'thud' sound.

"Wooh. Finally out!" miss dentist said.

"Woof." I was relieved.

"Ah these two teeth are muuuuucccccccchhhh easier."

True to her words, after another 15mins, they were out. Compared to the around half-hour for the first tooth!!!

The result??

my poor teeth...

Rrgh the only good thing from this..

"the above named is unfit for duty for a period of 05 day/s from 27.02.2006 to 3.03.2006 inclusive."

5-day MC!! Zai chao keng lol

And the bill? Footed by S A F!!

I've served my country, and finally it's my country's turn to serve me.

It will be your turn soon girls. (your wisdom teeth la, not to serve me la, duh!)

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Blackburn Rovers in FIFTH PLACE!!!

Blackburn Rovers beat Arsenal 1-0 to leapfrog them to FIFTH PLACE in the English Premier League!!!

Usually, this fixture would have been a battle of champion-hopefuls vs relegation-strugglers. It's not a matter of WHETHER Arsenal will win, and rather BY HOW MANY GOALS Arsenal will win.

THE man

How times have changed for Blackburn Rovers under Mark Hughes!!

For the first time in seasons, this fixture held some significant value as it turned out to be a potential 'six-pointer' for both clubs, who are now actually competing neck-to-neck for a Champions' League place.

(yes, laugh all you want you ignorant gits)

As a Blackburn Rovers fan, I am damn proud of how the management of Mark Hughes' team has transformed this small club into actually a good team competing in the premiership.

They may not have the fan base, the money or reputation of the 'big' boys (eg. chelski, man yoo, Liverfool, arse-nal, spuds and newkarchng), but they certainly up there in terms of management, preparation and professionalism. (It has one of the best youth academies in England)

It is easy for guys who support Man Utd, Arsenal or Liverpool to laugh at Blackburn. "haha loser club, hahahahah small club."

Yes of course, it is indeed a small club.

But it is far from being a 'loser club'.

Despite the town of Blackburn having a population of around 105,085, it has an average attendance of 26,006 (2005). That's 24.7%!!

Granted, there will be fans from other cities and countries, but this high percentage attendance per capita makes Blackburn Rovers one of the best supported clubs in relation to its town size.

It is easy for guys to just pick a big team, and say out the acheivements the club had. But what we are dealing here is

the expectations of the team VS the actual performance of the team

For that, I can't say that Man Utd fans, Arsenal fans or liverpool fans can be really happy about. This season alone, I think West Ham, Wigan and Blackburn fans will be more proud than their Manyoo or arsenal counterparts.

Small attendance --> Less money --> harder to buy or attract better players --> harder to achieve higher placings --> less money --> u know what I mean.

So despite the odds stacked against them, they've still managed to 'over-achieve' and has won the EPL in 1995, League Cup and 10th place in 2003 and 6th place in 2004.

How's that for a small club??

Compare that to the likes Newcastle, Tottenham and Aston Villa, who always call themselves 'big' clubs.. What have they won in the modern era?? Then how do they justify the BIG-ness?

Now you know why I am so proud of the Rovers.

So before you laugh at Blackburn, think again.. is the club you support exceeding expectations like Blackburn exceeding everyone's??

If not, I suggest you shut your mouth up =)

Arte Et Labore!!

(I know for non-football fans this sounds childish, but mature football fans would know what I'm talking about)

Aniwae I'm going for my wisdom teeth extraction @ Alexandra Hospital tomorrow. 3 teeth at one go!!!

Zai many-day MC haha!

When you're bored, what do you do??

When I'm bored at home, what do I do???

I video-surf!!

(zai porn.. porn ur head la)

youtube.com is a great place to view some videos on almost everything and anything, and certainly there're many people with too much time on the hands who really put in effort to upload those videos there. I thank them though, for some videos I've really enjoyed.

Jocie had now joined up as one of my favourite singers, and I'm happy to find that interview with her on E-news (previous-post)

What will be a video search without my idol David Tao??

Guess what I found??

His performance of Ai Wo Hai Shi Ta in the LOVE CAN CONCERT!!!!

Thought the concert tour hasn't finished??? I think this is the Beijing one. I will start looking for the VCD now haha

And on that page, at the bottom, 'sites linking to this video', the top link is Kewei's page!!

And after a few days, tada...!!!

Niakhaha, Kewei now is my friend on friendster!!!

Huh?? Who is this Kewei?? Most of you (xiong rayner zai crite) might be asking. These pictures may solve your doubts.

duet with david

tango with david

Kewei is part of the band in David Tao's Love Can Concert Tour, as a backup vocalist, and David graciously let her and the rest of the band share the limelight during the concert.

the Love Can band

(all pictures 'kopped' from her friendster profile)

The best thing??

She's a bloody Singaporean!!

she is at the extreme left.. Is that KELLY PAN on the right?!?!?!

She is recommended to David Tao by Goh Keng Long, a Singaporean musician, who has composed music for several well-known singers in mando-pop. She plays the erhu (in the concert nonetheless), and can sing and dance.

She looks damn chio at the Love Can concert, but, erm, looking at her friendster photos, I have second thoughts.

Haha but it's not the looks that counts. (she is still quite good-looking though!) I'm very happy to see and turned-on (sounds kinky, I know, but that's the exact, correct phrase) by people who are passionate about music.

This is her music website: projectdiy.net

There're some of her songs inside!! Hear out her voice for yourself.

I reckon she will be a singer and release her first album in the near future.

If she really becomes a singer in the future, remember you read it here first!!

Friends, what do you do on your computer when you're bored??

Please share with me at the "comments" page =)

Reflections

What shocked Singapore for the past week shocked me when I first heard it.

It seemed horrible enough.

I thought about it, only as a sad drama unfolding in Singapore. It provoked thoughts in me.

Never will I know that it was a lot closer than I thought.

Seeing them in person reminded me of my maternal family.

The simliarities are there. The type of people, the company they mix with.

Suddenly I started to worry for them.

Although I was never close to them, I always felt that they dote on me a lot, and always made me feel like part of the family whenever I have the chance to talk to them during chinese new year.

Practically I'm not close with them, but emotionally I always feel that they are close. They are the only people who could invoke my memories of my mother, and I will always think of them as family.

It's sounds stupid, but it is true.

Another reflection of life entered my mind.

Throughout the growing phases of my childhood, funerals, sadly, had became important markers.

At 5, my mum died.
At around 12, my paternal great-grandmother died.
At 15, my paternal grandmother, who brought me up, died.
At 17, my school mate, quite a close friend, died.
At 18, my maternal grandmother, died.
At 19, my sergeant in camp, my team commander, died.

And plus my teacher's dad, my friend's mum, my army friend's dad, my friend's uncle etc, the list is very long indeed.

Yes, you can call me a Funeral Veteran.

I've been to Buddhist funerals, Taoist funerals, Christian funerals, and to top it up, I was involved in a Military funeral.

Not something I'm proud of, but it is simply the truth.

Wakes and funerals never fail to invoke deep thoughts about my life and my extended family.

It is ironic that the time that an extended family will spend most time together is when someone dies. The type of family togetherness in times of crisis, the willingness to help one another, the willingness of sitting down properly to talk, and the willingness to not be calculative when it come to money matters.

Other than that, my paternal family don't contact one another.

MUST WE WAIT UNTIL SOMEONE DIES BEFORE WE CAN SIT DOWN AND TALK???

My family life is bonkers since young anyway and perhaps I shouldn't think so much.

Maybe this is just true for most families in Singapore.

Ya it made me think of life as well.

I should consider myself to be fortunate. Despite those circumstances, I managed to get good (not excellent though) grades all the way, and gain entry to university. In our small little social circle, getting into university seems so ordinary that it is like a granted. But little do we realise that there are some many people with lower intellect and more complex family problems who can only envy us people who qualify for university like a breeze.

I thank God for granting me my talents and natural academic appreciation. And my mum, whom I believe has never stopped watching over me through these 16 years, guiding me along the way. I should appreciate and treasure the things I have rather than moan about the things I don't have.

I also realise that life is really not about what you achieve, or how much of society-perceived 'success' u have.

The most important thing in life would be TO BE HAPPY. Forget all the big cars. Forget all the big houses. Forget all the 5Cs. Money is essential as a platform to happiness, but once you're dead, all that money will just go to someone else.

I will not pray to be rich but I'll pray for happiness in my whole life.

Jie Ai Shun Bian, my friend.

Rest in Peace.

NTU Hall One S.T.A.R Productions - Forget-Me-Not

photo taken from the programme book

Went to NTU Hall One's prod on sunday night, with Aaron and Xuying. (12/02/06)

It was nice meeting them. Aaron is always a person of fun. Although I'm not that close to him, I can always feel that sincerity when he talks.. he is someone who you'll never run out of topics with despite not contacting each other that often. And Xuying.. is still as cute as ever! Really appreciated the fact she took the time to come despite she having to leave during the interval... Seeing them made me miss our House Com days.. really wish to meet up with all of them one of these days... Delta House rocks!

The play was staged at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) Campus 3.

I was invited to watch this musical-comedy-love story by Ching Chui, who wrote ALL THE SONGS in the play herself!! Which I think is damn cool la... I really see her put in a lot of effort in her music and she must be so so so so proud of herself. She ought to!

beauty and the beast =p

Yah saying this I feel quite guilty too. I promised to help her but in the end I was too caught up with things in camp and didn't like even help a bit..

But still, after saying it for the 1000th time, I am so so so so proud of you Ching Chui!!

A flip through the programme book confirmed what I heard from drewie. Miss ANG CHE YIN is in the play!!

I saw Julynn and Weiqi among the seats and went to talk to them.

Me: "So qiao ma? Heard from andrew you coming to support zhiying izzit? You asked desmond and drew to come right?"

Julynn: " Yah I got only two tix.. Then andrew go Hong Kong ma, and desmond don't want to come alone la."

Me: "Wa lao bo jio lor."

Julynn: "I thought Bing De wouldn't come for this kind of show one, so... *giggles*"

Me: "Wa lao I very 'musical' de hor!! Aniwae zhiying is the main lady ah? Layla izzit?"

Julynn: "No la, last year she's the lead lady liao. So this year she plays the lead's MUM!"

*Both laughs* HAHAHAHAHA

A re-check with the programme book re-affirms that.

Auntie Ang - like the image drewie? =P

From the synopsis: (Forget-me-not is) The heart-warming story of Dong, a man intellectually slower than normal people, and Layla, a free-spirited and kind-hearted girl ever ready to pursue her dreams, tells us that being handicapped in one way does not mean to be handicapped in every single way. Our protangonist teaches us valuable lessons about life that most people take for granted in their lives. Follow the couple as they move from one decade to the next, exploring possibilities they never knew possible and finally making decisions that would impact them for the rest of their lives. Come and join us as NTU Hall One S.T.A.R Productions bring you into a realm of music and fairytale with this music comedy that highlights individuality, love and kinship...in Forget-Me-Not.

'live' band at the play - is there anything more cool than that?

The show started well, with Dong being bullied and Layla stopping the bullies and lending him a helping hand. Dong fell in love with this 'angel' and friendship developed. Layla then broke up with her boyfriend and had quarrels with the family.

some of the cast

Dong is the only one who stood by her through her ordeals.. songs went in between the shows showing Dong's mum pride for his son despite his handicap, Dong's love for his 'angel' Layla, the friendship of students in school, and Tommy's (Dong's friend) 'bastardity' by using Dong's $ to woo Layla.

close-up on the band - ching chui's at the piano!

It was then half-time - Xuying left and Julynn and Weiqi came to talk to me.

Zhiying then appeared from backstage and we took a photo together.. it's not that common u see zhiying so 'auntie'! But the way, she was damn good la.

proof =p

Acting damn 'auntily' was lotsa 'auntie' body languages and spilling words out of her mouth like rap lidat. I never knew that her voice is so sharp until that night!

aaron has grown taller! (as if haha) check out zhiying's 'mole'!

Then the play resumed. Layla went to university, and Dong went to work with his uncle at the drinks stall.

at the 'uni'

Layla then quits school to join Tommy's modelling company, and throw tantrums at Dong who advises her to complete her studies. Tommy's company collapses, and Layla can't pay her debts incurred for the modelling courses. Dong sold his paintings drawn for Layla and help her pay off her debts. Layla's parents finally see the good in Dong and accepted him. Layla found out about Dong's love for her while chancing upon his dairy and they marry. Layla suffered a 'memory-deteriorating' disease and Dong accommpanied her til the end, showing unconditional love right from the start.

three of us after the show

All in all I think the show was really nice! Erm it may be just a semi-professional performance - eg. the singers can't really sing well, the singing was rather muted by the 'live' band etc but the whole story was quite nicely acted out, with a good mixture of plot, music, humour, touch, and reflection. I thought the actors' acting was good. They carried their characters well and brought them to life. However i think Layla and Dong lacked some chemistry and Dong hasn't bring out the 'mr-nice-guy' feeling yet.

But getting people from just one hall, I think it was a really good performance. To me, the 'live' music was classy enough to make up for the little flaws in the show. The 'live' music really added lots to the 'feel' of the show. I particularly liked the percussions in the fast song (dunno the name) depicting the university canteen and ching chui's piano during the touching songs and scenes. Given more time and better singers, the songs would perhaps be more justified and it will really be an even better show I think.

My favourite song of the play:

Your Hand In Mine

The day you walked into my life
Was the day I learned how to care
You show my perfectly
When you held out your hand
And told me ‘it’s ok”
Since that day
All I could do was think
Think of you

(just part of the song but this was the part that kept ringing in my mind.. the song is just so sweet)

It feels like falling in love again...

Rock on!

Valentines' Day

So.. tomorrow's Valentines' Day huh?

Yes of course I'm acting blur here.

It's impossible to ignore this date, isn't it?

February the 14th is that kind of date which will invoke two totally opposite reactions. Either you're very excited by it, or you totally dread it.

No prizes for knowing whether I'm the former or latter!!

Haha.

For couples, it's a reminder of how lucky they are to be in love. Despite all the stupid quarrels and childish spats along the way, this is a day for them to put aside all unhappiness and re-affirm their 'undying' love for one another.

Couples would surely love this day. The supposedly 'special' date at a 'special' place, the extra effort your one would put in on those cutie presents, and not forgetting the atmosphere spelling 'love' everywhere when you walk along the roads and see couples everywhere. It just feels so good to be one of them, isn't it? Love is in the air when you're in love!

The downside however, is the burning sensation in front of your thighs.

(I know you're thinking dirty my friend!)

This kind of special date with special presents at a special place showered by special flowers gurantee that you have to pay a special price for it.

Love is in the air I know. But so is the smell of burnt pockets!

Especially for guys I think. For those rich guys who still take money from their parents, of course it's ok.

You can spend lots and lots of your parents' money and make your girl fall head over heels for you.

For poor guys? headache, headache.

Although we are in an era of so-called 'gender equality', some things just never change. For Valentines' Day, it's rather impossible for couples to go Dutch - for special occasions like this, the guy OUGHT to pay for everything... whoo imagine the burden on your average HDB dweller!

So on the positive side, I have no such problem this year! haha

Well, on the other hand, people who are single who be reminded of their singlehood. Not that singlehood is neccessarily a bad thing, but seeing people get excited over Valentines' while you have absolutely no plan just feels a little disappointing.

Personally, I'm quite against going out with friends on this day.

oh 14th Feb is also known as friendship day?

Just a term coined by singles to comfort themselves!!

Christmas out with friends? Sure, it's a day of loving and sharing!
Valentines? Sorry no, it is the day for couples (or potential ones)

It is a special day, but yet you have to act as if it's just another day.. is it possible?

Before I end, just thought that I would share something with you.

Well, I've never celebrated Valentines' before.

(huh? how is this possible? thought you had a girlfriend during that period?)

Yes of course. But guess what?

February the 14th 2004 was the start of my bloody BMT FIELD CAMP!!!!

One more reason to add to the long list of why I freaking hate the A R M Y.

Thank you very much S A F.

I Not Stupid Too

Watched I Not Stupid Too at Princess (!) with Weide and Junwei last nite.

Before the i comment on the movie,

Princess is a bloody lousy place to watch a movie!

Those stupid uncles and aunties who would not stop predicting and commenting DURING the movie.

Those people who brought Macdonalds in to eat!

Those children who shout loudy, "wa lao.. *&(*_($#_(# can liao wat!"

Those people whose handphone rang and rang.

The speakers which went off and on as they like! (Dolby surround sound, zhun boh?)

They behave as if they are at home watching a TV show!

I really didn't feel like watching a movie at all... it felt like some olden days open air cinema.. just with the aircon.

However it was only $5! So I didn't really mind la.. Typical BEDOK place with BEDOK prices.

Well, back to the movie.

I must say I've enjoyed this movie, which brought me to the brink of tears sometimes.

The movie started with a very high tempo, which kept bombarding us with the problems the typical old-fashioned Singaporean families face.

Kids kept getting scolded for everything they do, be it good or bad.
Parents keep on mumbling and nagging which results in no kid listening to them.
Face-to-face communication kept to a minimum through the invention of sms and children prefer to use the computer, blog or talk to their friends.
Parents setting one set of rules for kids while not setting examples for them.
Lack of sex education to the young.
Parents not able to find the 'right' way to love.. old fashioned parenting still exists.

Next, it highlighted the problems of schools in Singapore.

Students are not encouraged enough when they make improvements.. instead they're scolded for not improving fast enough.
Students do not respect teachers as much as last time.
The students disliking chinese as a subject.
The old-fashioned teaching of chinese resulting in that.
People do not need good chinese to succeed in Singapore undermines the importance of the laguage.

Inflexible 'law-by-law' mindsets of Singaporeans

Public Caning - For the pain or for the shame?

All in all, these points were very well brought out by the interlocking characters, namely the principal, teachers, students and parents.

The were very touching scenes in the show, when the children (funny when i use this word, they're big now) feel that sense of desperateness when their parents simply do not know what they want, and when the parents are on the brink of giving up as they thought they had given their best and yet their children never seem to learn.

It struck the chords in my heart as quite the same things happened to me when I was small.

It reminded me of the times when I was small, when I tried to explain my mistakes EVERYONE refuse to acknowledge what my explanations were and insisted that I was wrong.

I was as pissed off and sad as the guys in the show.

Now I've grown up, I could understand those intentions.

However, the lessons in the show could serve us well should we go into parenting in the later stages of our lives.

Quotes of the show:

1. Prinicpal: "You should use english to make them clearer and more interested in learning chinese!" Teacher: "I don't remember my teacher using chinese to teach me english when i was young!"

2. Huang Yi Liang, on the death bed: "Tian Xia Mei You Jiao Bu Hui De Hai Zi, Zhi You Bu Hui Jiao De Fu Mu."

3. Jack: "Why did you steal auntie's money?!?!" Kid: "I only want to raise the $500 to buy your one hour to come and watch my performance..."

I had only one complaint to the show. When it seeks to touch people, suddenly an ill-fitting, not-so-funny joke comes about to spoil the 'touching' factor. Like when when Huang Yi Liang is dying, the teachers comfort him that he is going to live long, then suddenly his funeral photo shows up. Also when the fat auntie scolds that boy when he caused his dad's death, she suddenly clears her nose mucus.. so inappropriate!

But overall I still think it was brillant. He managed to combine so many issues, humour, touch and fit them into the characters perfectly.

It was another Jack Neo masterpiece.. well worth the $5!

Don't pray pray with religion

The publication of cartoon images of Prophet Mohammed drawn by a Danish cartoonist has caused an uproar in the muslim world.

Seeing the news, I asked my muslim friend in camp.

Me: "What is this all about and why the uproar?"

Friend: "In Islam, we are not supposed to depict Prophet Mohammed in any form... "

Me: "So you're not supposed to create images of Prophet Mohammed in like statues, drawings etc?"

Friend: "Yes, none of these. So these stupid people, they go and draw cartoons of Him, and it is against our religion."

Me: "Yes, what's more, the images are insulting. Like the one with the bomb on His head."

Friend: " Ya lah, f*ck man, what do they think they are doing, man?"

Me: "Ya, it is as if they are protraying Him as a terrorist or something."

Friend: " Yah la, it's damn stupid la. However, some of them stupid la, go fire gun at their embassy *makes the high-pod weapon pose* 'tarng, tarng, tarng'.. Stupid la, do these for what? Only make the matter worse only."

Me: "True."

Then we went on to watch the news video. (right click and open in new)

Friend 2: "What the &*#@ man.. Even not as a staunch Muslim, i feel so..." *shakes head with saddened and angry expression*

Me: "Ya. If I'm were a Muslim I will also feel damn angry la."

At first it was only Denmark. There was calls right from the start to stop the publication of these images.

However, citing the reason 'freedom of speech and press", the Danish press pressed on, and published 3 even more insulting cartoons.

And despite angry protests, the press in some parts of Europe (France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway and Spain) continued defiantly to publish these images, totally neglecting the sensitivities surrounding it. On Saturday it spread to New Zealand and Poland.

There you have it.

Insensitivity and arrogance of the West.

I understand that in some religions, it is believed that only their religion is the right one, and all the others are fake or works of the devil.

It's perfectly alright to think this way, as long as it is your belief.

But living in the world today, with more and more different cultures and religions living side by side, we definitely need to develop that kind of sensitivity regarding these topics.

Even if you think that some religion is fake or just stupid, you got to respect it!

At least pretend to la.

That's the thing I find lacking in some people. Even though they think that they are in a so-called 'superior' religion, they've got to respect and try to understand the workings of other religions and cultures.

It's no use acting superior in front of others. It only serves to piss them off and drive them nearer to the devil (or at least that's the belief).

That's the problem with some, but I would say most, people in the West. They are so engrossed in their religion and culture that they are unable to adapt other cultures into their mindset.

There are commentators who call Park Ji-Sung as Ji-Sung Park. There are people who call Chow Yun Fat as Mr Fat. There are ang-mohs who pronounce Geylang as "gay-leang", instead of 'gay-lang'.

How 'unadaptable' can they get?

Surnames and pronounciation is sttiiilllllll okay.

Now, it's religion.

People tell them to stop, but they simply refuse to. Worse still, they think that it's their freedom to insult other people's religion publicly.

(Like I said, even if you think they're stupid, say it in private!)

The result?

Embassies burnt and economic sanctions.

To me, although all these could be somehow understandable, the reactions are really over-the-top.

Initially the Muslims were seen as the victims - of their religion being insulted -, now they've have turned the tables and become the agressor instead.

From a moral high ground, they have stooped low to using violence, entirely missing the point of the protests. It now becomes a new round of a blinded anti-West campaign.

What these so-called Muslims are doing now is simply reinforcing the stereotypes on Muslims and middle eastern people - that they are a bunch of backward and violent barbarians who are capable of creating chaos anywhere.

I've seen blog posts like this (re-created by my memory):

"If they think that satrical drawings are offensive, then they should move out of Denmark, as Denmark is surely not a place for them. Why stay on and make a fuss out of it?"

"Now we have official forms in 148 languages! If they can't speak English, I'm sorry, but London is not for them... I'm sick of these people who can't adapt to the society, and yet wants the society to adapt to them. You want to build a church in the middle of their town centre? You get bombed. You want to build a mosque in central London? Welcome!! This is a place of freedom! "

"But I don't get it. A newspaper cartoonist makes a cartoon that offends Muslims. (It is against Islamic beliefs to depict Mohammed in picture.) He happens to be in Denmark? Why burn the embassies? The government has nothing to do with this. Why boycott the products? It is the opinion of one person.

What can the government do? Ban his cartoon? What can the industries do? Refuse to sell him cheese.

It just doesn't make sense. I've seen the cartoons. They aren't that offensive.

Okay, I understand the difference between secular European society and all-encompassing post Ottoman Muslim society.

But still. It is enough to make me want to stop eating halva and persian limes?"

The misconceptions on Islam (both from the outside and inside) is already severe enough, and what they are doing are just deepening these misconceptions.

I just want to ask them this question.

"Do you think Prophet Mohammed would have reacted in this manner if he was alive?"

The act of defending their Prophet is surely ironic. Defend a man who calls for peace through acts of violence. Is this really the Islam way?

So please be careful guys, although Singapore has a so-called integrated, multi-racial society, racial tensions are always boiling under the surface. A simple spark will easily trigger an explosion.

Don't pray pray with religion.

River Ang Bao and 08/02 gathering!!

Went to River Ang Bao with Elson, Jinfu, Desmond, James and Zhi Qing on Chu Er (30/01/06) night.

Haiz organizing an outing is really quite sian. Especially when the people involved do not want to reply!! Like until the last moment that kind.

And thanks wendy, anmei and liwei for ur last-minute pangseh!!!

James, please la, next time try to be steady abit k, please try to appreciate the effort and reply promptly. (i'm trying to refrain from vulgarities in CNY period)

Geng Hui, where the **** are you?? Sms-ed you twice and saw u online. Then u still never reply. !@#@&&#@!

Actually, I didn't really wanted to see River Ang Bao for what was there. It was just a giant pasar malam, except with new year decorations and many, many people.

However, I was so damn bored at home, I just wanted to go out. And also, I just wanted to get myself some kind of CNY atmosphere, and take this as an excuse for the 4dees for a gathering of some sort. But the turnout was a bit disappointing, to say the least.

And sorry zhiqing!! I didn't mean to show attitude but i was rather sianed by the turnout la. Think you can see it too.

Nonetheless, I tried to enjoy myself la.

Erm although River Ang Bao looks nothing special, it is a good place for families and friends to go, as I can sense quite a great CNY atmosphere there. Everywhere was red and blasted with CNY music, and the noise made by the crowded public makes it very Re Nao.

It is specially heartening for me to see us, the Chinese, gathering here for CNY. Despite the trend being the young people more interested in Western fashion and culture, and the erosion of our traditional values, we still have a big celebration here in Singapore.

I brim with pride when I see tourists of other races visiting River Ang Bao, as I think we are still preserving what's special in our society - the diversity of cultures still being celebrated and maintained upon.

The ways of celebrations may slowly evolve or be simplified, but to me, it can never be allowed to disappear.

Sorry, but I have a strong pride in being Chinese.

It was instilled in me since primary school, when I had great Chinese teachers. It grew when I studied in AHS, where I studied chinese literature, participated in Chinese debates and quizes, and impacted upon me by Huang Yi Qiu Lao Shi.

It's not about China. I have nothing to do with them. I'm not proud of their Communist past (and present) and some of their stupid modern-day values and behaviour.

I just feel that we should be proud of our heritage and culture, and not surrender our ancestors' past to the overwhelming Western culture.

And if you happen to be a Chinese but yet one who despise our own culture, sorry, but I DESPISE YOU. You can just bloody migrate to some ang moh country. You can just dye your hair gold, bleach your skin white, wear blue contact lenses, and speak with that fake accent.

The ang mohs there will embrace you like their own kind!!

yeah right.

That's why to me, River Ang Bao is not just a stupid giant pasar malam. It is a symbol of CNY celebration of the Chinese Singaporeans, and it is our (the Chinese's) effort to keep our traditions going on.

It is easy for us to dimiss it being boring or stupid.

Of course, it is boring.

A walk through Orchard Road or a movie in a Golden Village cinema would be more interesting.

But this is the bloody Chinese New Year!

If we don't try to appreciate the atmosphere during this period, when are we going to feel it again?

If the Chinese do not know how to appreciate and maintain our own culture, then who will?

That's why I was quite insistent on at least a little visit there.

Well, there was nothing much interesting there, but I was just looking around, endearing myself into the atmosphere.

Saw the Yun Cheng (luck forecast) of the Ox. Didn't remember everything, but there it says all luck, career, romance, health and academics would be good.

Hope it will spur my first push towards the Dean's List! =p

And the Tao Hua month is the 5th lunar month!! (hahahah all Ox take note)

Erm quite bored, we took some photos.

me with eyes closed

elson, me and jinfu looking for some prosperity (FU)

desmond, zhiqing and james looking for happiness (XI)

Then after finish walking through the whole place without really doing anything, we went to TCC at the citylink to sit down talk talk.

here we are! TCC

try pangseh-ing me again -- this is the face u'll get.

Then we had to leave at bloody 11pm! Miss Waitress said they close at 11pm... I remembered last time when I walked past TCC at the citylink, people still talked outside it past midnight! Didn't bother to ask why also. Then we left at around 11.10pm.. to meet Mr CHUA THIAM HAO at the MRT.

Apparently he sent his dear dory to PS and was going home alone hahahahaha

must take photo, even at the MRT

That was it. Our River Ang Pao outing!!

Next time I'll make sure NOBODY pangseh me again.

IF THEY DO I'll KILL THEM!!!

(oops it CNY)

08/02 gathering!!

Every CNY, 08/02 will have a gathering at yujia's place.

This year, we held it on Chu San. (31/01/06)

Too bad this year the turnout was quite bad.. only the clique people came.. a bit disappointing to me la, but nevermind.

Actually this was one of the worst 08/02 gatherings ever!!

We just played mahjong and NOTHING ELSE lor.. except that very very fast dinner.

rayner zai gek mouth to cover braces

But well, so glad we're still keeping the traditions.. next time find more things to do k?
