Well, after a 2.5 year 'break', it's finally back to the books for me.
First week of school is quite relaxing, with only lectures and no tutorials planned.. tutorials are still in the balloting process.
The modules I taking this semester are Economics, Sociology, Political Science, Chinese Language, and SEA studies, which all are exposure modules, and the SEA module being a GEM (General Education Module) for me.
Anyway, it's was quite refreshing to attend the lectures, as the subjects I'm studying are all the thinking type, which provides insights into the greater world we live in today.
First lecture, SEA -- The lecturer, Irvine Johnson, hails from malaysia but he sounded damn well-versed in SEA studies, and he's lame and funny in the Singaporean way.. Definitely not one lecturer whose lecture you will fall asleep in... A lot of videos will be shown in lectures for this module.. great!
Sociology -- Well, I attended this lecture last year, when I crashed classes before we went to the one-month 'holiday' in Taiwan.. this is was so different! The lecturer started lesson proper, and was dead serious, except in the end, he cracked some jokes about the SDU - in a straight face, of course. It's also an interesting subject, but whether would it be taught interestingly, well, it remains to be seen.
Political Science -- After this year's election, I was really keen to know more about the different political systems in the world. Well, the first lecture was insightful. The Indian lecturer, I bet, is the only Indian lecturer I understood in my entire life lol.. She also went into lesson proper, but she was more relaxed and the way she lectured was quite comfortable and informative.
Chinese Language -- I realised how lousy we Singaporeans are in Chinese. So what we had A1 for our HCL last time? With less and less usage, be it in speaking, listening, and writing, the standards of the language in Singapore will continue to erode. I heard moans and groans whenever a 'cheem' thing is being spoken, and it's as if those who CHOSE to take this module despises the language as well.. I hate it when people sneers at Chinese stuff. If you are one, *smile*, FUCK YOU. Well, the lecturer is from China, and the sense of 亲切感 is gone. I understood perfectly what she was talking about, but somehow the very restricted sense of humour they have fail to inspire me. However, with me being still very emotional attached to the language, it's great to have like-minded people like Wei Lie in the same lecture as me, and we slowly re-discover our passion for our mother-tongue.
Econs -- Most fei one. All was JC stuff.. zzz.. hopefully sure A+ (hen nan meh?)
Also, i went for the Capioera trial lesson on weds.. it was quite fun! Hope it will help me get the 'groove' I so need in me...the only stumbling block is the $120 lesson fees though.
Friday, I went for the Voices audition.. I think I did badly - I just sang normally, and picked a song without any highs and lows.. it must have sounded mediocre.
Travelling back and fro school is crazy. I hate taking the MRT now!!
But after so many appeals,
I FINALLY GOT MY FREAKING HALL!!!
I feel I should be happy, but somehow, I have that fear in stepping into hall life.. Would I be overly busy? Will I miss home? Will I feel lonely there?
Dunno.. only time will tell bah!!
Now.. back to the books.. zzz.
