Last COS duty and Happy CNY!!!It was morning, 28/01/06, 8am.
As the sunlight creepingly filtered through the trees in front of the HQ block and shone on me, it felt as if the rays had filled me with a sense of excitement.
It was the end of my last COS duty!!!!
(ORD LOH!)
When you're on COS duty, you're like a man ready for
anyone's disposal. You could be arrowed by almost anyone to do things. Much like a runner for everyone.
If the hall/lecture room/bunk/office is not locked, you lock it.
If anyone wants to find anyone, u find them.
If there is no one to throw the rubbish, you throw it.
If your superior wants medicine, you go collect it.
If the lights are not off, you off it.
And so on.
Futhermore, my organisation is well known for its abundance of paperwork.. for what u say??
S A F lingo -
wayang.
Any slight mistake in doing them (only if caught hahahaha) would result in punishment.
Sounds exaggerrated, but it's true.
So, the feeling of completing any regimental duty is great. You feel liberated, as that stupid yellow saigang tag is stripped off your left sleeve.
No more manning phones. No more checking of area cleaning. No more danger of getting punishment. No more shit arrowed on me!
It's the next person's problem now! Haha.
Feeling ready for Chinese New Year, I booked out.
It felt good to be on the way home with bright sunshine.
(Thanks lihui! For accompanying me for brunch and on the trip home.. It was great after the duty which burnt 20+hrs of my precious book-out time)
However, feeling weary from the lack of sleep, I noticed something.
Where is that bloody Chinese New Year atmosphere???As each year go by, me (and some of my friends) begin to think that Chinese New Year, and for other festivals, the atmosphere is slowly getting worse and worse.
Is it because I'm getting older??
Or is it because there is a genuine lack of atmosphere everywhere??
I don't remember anything being different for the things i did for CNY in the past and now.
So it must be the former.
Actually, I don't believe in this 'the atmosphere is getting worse every year' crap
Those who say this are those kind of passive people who wait for things to happen rather than to make it happen.
Which they would probably say,
"C'mon, show me the atmosphere before I want to enjoy this new year.",
"Why aren't THE OTHERS doing more to create the CNY atmosphere??"
" I think the GOVERNMENT should.."
-_-
I believe that we're the ones who create the atmosphere, not the atmosphere that creates us.
If you want the Chinese New Year atmosphere, help foster it yourself!!
When relatives are there and talking to you, you give a sian sian face.
You complain when everywhere is playing the same old CNY songs.
You complain of shopping malls which are not decorated with CNY stuff.
When friends organise new year visits, you don't want to go.
Or when you go you say it's sian.
You expect the house to be decorated with cool CNY stuff, but you wait for your parents to do that.
And when they decorate, you say it looks old-fashioned.
You see me I see you.
Haha aiyo like that how to create the CNY atmosphere???
So if you want to get the CNY atmosphere, please:
1) Talk to your relatives nicely, and try to be positive
2) Get your ass off to Bai Nian
3) Get your ass off to Chinatown and River Hong Bao!
4) Volunteer to decorate the house with CNY stuff if you think your parents are not doing that or put up too 'orbit' stuffs.
5) Organise friends bai-nians and mingle around with everyone.. it's time to gamble big and enjoy the fun!
6) Take leave or pon lessons after the official holidays!!!
Now, the atmosphere of CNY lies in YOU.
It's there is no CNY atmosphere this time round, IT'S YOUR FAULT!!!
Haha
XIN NIAN KUAI LE EVERYONE!!!
